Tips to TELLing a good story
Following the below tips will help your story and engage the audience.
- Stories are told, not read. Notes are not allowed on stage.
- Stories must be about you. You should be the focus and one of the main characters
- TELL a story that has a cohesive beginning, middle, and end. A good story is not a stand-up routine, or anecdotes strung together
- A good story has some high stakes included in it. (What happens if you break up with that person? What will happen if you disobey your Mom?)
- Practice your story. The William TELL gives you 7 minutes. You should stay within that timeframe. If you find yourself going over, focus on only the main points of the story.
- Do not worry about stumbling, forgetting something and then remembering, etc. This is not a polished performance. Storytelling should feel free and organic.
